The Jockey Club Names Towles Manager of Registration Services

The Jockey Club announced today that Janice Towles has been promoted to Manager of Registration Services.

Towles fills a position held for the past four years by Rick Bailey, who has moved into The Jockey Club’s Information Technology Group, where he will concentrate on the Registry’s software development needs, especially the DNA project for parentage verification. DNA typing is scheduled to begin with the 2001 foal crop.

The promotion was announced by Gary Carpenter, the executive vice president and executive director of The Jockey Club.

“Janice has successfully handled a wide variety of assignments in the Registry since she joined The Jockey Club,” said Carpenter. “She is an integral part of our Registry team and this promotion recognizes not only her contributions of the past but also the increased responsibility she is assuming as we look to the future.”

Towles joined The Jockey Club in May, 1988 as a customer service representative and was later named assistant supervisor of customer service, supervisor of customer service and then supervisor of registration services.

The Alfex, Kentucky, native received a degree in business administration and a M.B.A. from Morehead State University, where she was an all-conference selection on the women’s basketball team.

As the manager of registration services, she is responsible for all aspects of the daily operation of the Registry, including staffing, training, long-term planning and policy formation, among other duties.
