The topics of medication, equine health and the impact that advance deposit wagering has on the economics of racing will share the spotlight when The Jockey Club hosts its 55^th annual Round Table Conference on Matters Pertaining to Racing on Sunday, August 19, at the Gideon Putnam Resort and Spa in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

The conference will open with a report on the activities of The Jockey Club by James L. Gagliano, the organization’s executive vice president and chief administrative officer.

That will be followed by a segment focusing on advance deposit wagering and the economics of racing. Sharing the business philosophies of their respective organizations will be Robert L. Evans, president and CEO of Churchill Downs Incorporated; Joe Santanna, president and chairman of the board of the National Horsemen’s Benevolent & Protective Association; and David Nathanson, senior vice president and general manager of the Television Games Network (TVG).

Ed Bowen, president of the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, and Dr. Rick Arthur, the California Horse Racing Board’s equine medical director, will then provide a report on recent activities emanating from the Welfare and Safety of the Racehorse Summit held last October.

That segment will conclude with remarks from Roy Jackson, the co-owner of Barbaro, focusing on the importance of equine research.

Dr. Scot Waterman, executive director of the Racing Medication and Testing Consortium, will follow with an update on the progress of the RMTC and Nick Nicholson, president and CEO of Keeneland Association, will update attendees on the ongoing work at the Equine Drug Research Institute (EDRI) laboratory in Los Angeles.

The Jockey Club Round Table Conference was first held on July 1, 1953, in The Jockey Club office in New York City. The following year, it was moved to Saratoga Springs, N.Y., where it has been held every August since.
