For the second consecutive year, Adena Springs tops the list of leading individual breeders in North America in 2004 with earnings of $14,225,036, according to statistics released today by The Jockey Club Information Systems, Inc. (TJCIS). Adena Springs bred the winners of 400 races from 2,540 starts and is followed by the late John Franks who bred the winners of 542 races from 4,309 starts for earnings of $10,296,813.

Adena Springs also heads a second breeder list that includes partnerships, although the nursery was not represented by any runners bred in partnership. Runner-up was John Franks who, alone or in partnership, bred the winners of 569 races from 4,497 starts for earnings of $11,102,598.

Rounding out the list of top 10 individual breeders were: Farnsworth Farms, $8,684,897 (472 wins/3,703 starts); Someday Farm, $7,563,853 (6/11); Mr. and Mrs. John C. Mabee, $5,063,818 (201/1,322); Arthur Appleton, $5,042,948 (160/858); Juddmonte Farms, $4,989,627 (55/283); Ken and Sarah Ramsey, $4,832,083 (111/655); Sam-Son Farm, $4,782,501 (51/317); and Edward P. Evans, $4,775,260 (138/997).

Completing the list of top 10 breeders including partnerships were: Farnsworth Farms, $10,111,530 (590 wins/4,491 starts); Someday Farm, $7,563,853 (6/12); William S. Farish, $5,661,499 (226/1,453); Mr. and Mrs. John C. Mabee, $5,063,818 (no horses bred in partnership); Arthur Appleton, $5,042,948 (160/859); Juddmonte Farms, $4,989,627 (no horses bred in partnership); Sez Who Thoroughbreds, $4,906,670 (213/1,440); and Ken and Sarah Ramsey, $4,832,083 (no horses bred in partnership).
