The Jockey Club Tour on FOX Stops at Belmont Park for Man o’ War

The Jockey Club Tour on FOX makes its first and only stop at historic Belmont Park Sunday, May 11, with live coverage of the Grade I, $400,000 Man o’ War Stakes on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. ET. The race is contested at 1 3/8 miles on the turf.

The Man o’ War Stakes has been held every year since 1959 and is named for the Thoroughbred many consider to be the best racehorse in the history of U.S. racing. Man o’ War won 20 of his 21 career starts. He won one of those races by 100 lengths and triumphed in another while carrying 138 pounds.

In the process, he set three world records, two American records, two track records, and equaled another track record. Seven of his victories came at Belmont Park.

The Ruffian Stakes will also be shown live as part of Sunday’s telecast and the Westchester Stakes (featuring 2013 Belmont Stakes winner Palace Malice) will be shown on tape delay. There will be features on the unique history and dimensions of Belmont Park and NYRA’s new full-time Spanish language announcer Luis Grandison, plus a Kentucky Derby recap and Preakness Stakes preview, a glimpse at the Keeneland sales and several brief segments commemorating Mother’s Day.

The on-air duties will be handled by Greg Wolf, Richard Migliore, Andy Serling and Simon Bray with Maggie Wolfendale stepping in for Alyssa Ali for this show.

Migliore, Serling and Wolfendale are no strangers to Belmont Park. Migliore was based there for most of his 31-year career as a jockey and now works as a racing analyst for the New York Racing Association (NYRA), Serling has been a racing analyst for NYRA simulcasts for the past six years, and Wolfendale has been a NYRA paddock analyst since 2010.

“The Man o’ War is one of the most prestigious and historic turf races in the country, and it is the first of several prominent turf races in The Jockey Club Tour on FOX,” said Jason Wilson, vice president, business development, The Jockey Club.

Following the Man o’ War Stakes, The Jockey Club Tour on FOX will continue with five broadcasts featuring several of North America’s top races for older horses.
