Harris, Lear, and Polk Elected to The Jockey Club Board of Stewards

John C. Harris, William M. Lear Jr., and Dr. Hiram C. Polk Jr. have been elected to the board of stewards of The Jockey Club, filling the expired positions of James C. Brady, William S. Farish, and Richard T. Santulli.

Harris has been a member of The Jockey Club since 1988 and was a steward from 1990 through 1994. He is president and chairman of Harris Farms, a former chairman of the California Horse Racing Board, and five-time former president of the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association. Harris is also a member of the Breeders’ Cup board of directors and an owner and breeder.

Lear, a member of The Jockey Club since 2010, is the managing director and chairman of Stoll Keenon Ogden, a law firm based in Lexington, Ky. He is a trustee of Keeneland Association and has represented numerous Thoroughbred industry organizations, farms and racing stables.

Polk, a member of The Jockey Club since 2000, is a former director of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association and former Chairman of the University of Louisville Department of Surgery. He owns and breeds Thoroughbreds and is a member of The Jockey Club Thoroughbred Safety Committee.
