The Jockey Club Jack Goodman Scholarship Recipients Announced for 2012-2013

Matthew Benton and Christina Moore, students at the University of Arizona’s Race Track Industry Program (RTIP), have been awarded The Jockey Club Jack Goodman Scholarships for the 2012-2013 academic year, it was jointly announced today by Matt Iuliano, executive vice president and executive director of The Jockey Club, and Doug Reed, director of the RTIP.

Benton, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., is a senior studying animal science; Moore, of Lacon, Ill., is a second year graduate student working on a master’s in animal science. This is the second Goodman Scholarship for Benton, whose scholarship from last year was renewed for 2012-2013.

“These students have proved themselves not only in the classroom but within the industry,” said Iuliano. “The Jockey Club is pleased to be part of the Jack Goodman Scholarship, which will help Matthew and Christina succeed in the RTIP and fulfill their ambitions in the Thoroughbred industry.”

The Jockey Club Jack Goodman Scholarship was created in 2007 and is awarded annually to RTIP students based on their academic achievement, proposed career path in the Thoroughbred racing industry and previous industry involvement. Goodman is a longtime member of The Jockey Club and is one of three founders of the RTIP.

“The RTIP is very grateful to Mr. Goodman for his role in establishing and nurturing our program and equally grateful to The Jockey Club for supporting our students,” said Reed.
