The Jockey Club Tour on FOX will bring viewers to the opening weekend at two iconic American racetracks, Del Mar and Saratoga Race Course, on Sunday with a special, two-hour telecast featuring the Eddie Read Stakes and TVG Coaching Club American Oaks.
The show will air from 5:30-7:30 p.m. EDT on FOX Sports 1 and on-air duties will be handled by Greg Wolf, Richard Migliore, Andy Serling, and Alyssa Ali at Saratoga and Simon Bray at Del Mar. The America’s Best Racing betting challenge between Andy Serling and Simon Bray, won by Bray last week, will be continued.
Both races carry purses of $300,000 and are run at 1 1/8 miles, with the Eddie Read on turf for 3-year-olds and up and the TVG Coaching Club American Oaks on dirt for 3-year-old fillies. Princess of Sylmar, who won the Longines Kentucky Oaks, the TVG Coaching Club American Oaks and two other Grade 1 races in 2013, will be spotlighted during the show.
The telecast will also feature segments on historic racing moments, local events and social scenes, and a comparison of fashion styles between the tracks.
“The Del Mar and Saratoga meets are true gems on the Thoroughbred racing calendar and they are always among the leaders in daily attendance,” said Jason Wilson, president, TJC Media Ventures. “The Jockey Club Tour on FOX focuses on racing’s horses, people and places, and these are the perfect venues to showcase America’s best racing.”
Other segments of the show will be devoted to the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, Thoroughbred ownership, and interviews with Chris Kay, New York Racing Association’s CEO and president, and Joe Harper, Del Mar’s CEO, president, and director.

About Del Mar
Del Mar, just a few furlongs from the Pacific Ocean, has been a racing holiday location since its founding in 1937 by Hollywood pals Bing Crosby and Pat O’Brien. Owner-breeder Crosby, known as the original laid-back Californian, put his special stamp on the place “where nobody’s in a hurry but the horses.” Bing penned and sang a ditty called “Where the Turf Meets the Surf” in 1938 and the song is still played today at the start and finish of every card. That same year the track itself became famous when it hosted a match race between champion Seabiscuit and South American star Ligaroti, broadcast live on Crosby’s highly popular radio show coast to coast. Johnny Longden set the world’s record for most wins by a rider on Labor Day in 1956, a mark broken on Labor Day 1970 at Del Mar by Bill Shoemaker. The seaside oval has evolved from a “quaint country track” to one of America’s racing stalwarts, a proving ground for stars-in-the-making and stars-in-fact guided by first-rate horsemen and enjoyed by enthusiastic racing crowds all summer long. This fall Del Mar will conduct a second racing season during November.
