No Fee for Silks and Stable Name Registration at New York Racetracks

The Jockey Club announced today that a fee will no longer be required for silks or stable name registration at New York Racing Association (NYRA) racetracks or Finger Lakes Racetrack. In addition, the silks registration process has been streamlined, which should substantially eliminate the need for owners to have one set of silks for New York and another elsewhere.

These changes will simplify the registration process for owners and horsemen participating in New York racing. The Jockey Club is required to perform these duties under New York state code, Rules and Regulations, New York State Gaming Commission, Rules of Racing.

Following are the new guidelines for silks registration:
 
  • Colors must be registered in the name of one person only; NOT a stable name or Mr. & Mrs. (example: Mary E. Jones).
  • You may have an emblem, initials, or stable name on front and back.
  • Characters (letters and numbers) are permitted in a space no more than 12 inches in diameter across the silks.
  • Shall not have commercial significance (e.g., an advertisement for a business or service) or be offensive, disparaging, or inflammatory.
  • Registered silks descriptions inactive for more than five (5) years will be deemed abandoned colors.

Any fees already paid for future-year silks or stable name registrations will be refunded by The Jockey Club.
