Horse Racing Reform Launches New Website
Horse Racing Reform, an industry initiative led by The Jockey Club and Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, announced today the launch of an updated website, horseracingreform.org, designed to better inform and educate the general public, racing fans, and industry personnel on safety, integrity, and welfare matters in horse racing. The mobile-friendly site includes a range of new educational tools and resources to keep users apprised of advocacy efforts. Among the additions to the website: Updated maps showing adoption of model rule language for out-of-competition testing, third-party Lasix administration, and controlled therapeutic medication thresholds Updated map and in-depth summary showing adoption of the National Uniform Medication Program An “Education” section dedicated to providing information on equine health and safety A regular blog from Joe Gorajec, former executive director of the Indiana Horse Racing Commission and a longtime advocate for integrity in racing Links to state rulebooks and commission websites A searchable list of Lasix-free runners from the prior 30 days A live Twitter feed “The stated mission of the Horse Racing Reform initiative is to provide awareness and education to the racing community to advocate for increased uniformity, safety, welfare, and integrity of the sport,” said Matt Iuliano, executive vice president and executive director, The Jockey Club. “This new and improved website will provide invaluable resources for fellow advocates to stay informed and engaged as we work to improve the industry, specifically through passage of the Horseracing Integrity Act of 2017.” The Jockey Club, founded in 1894 and dedicated to the improvement of Thoroughbred breeding and racing, is the breed registry for North American Thoroughbreds.
