BloodHorse Promotes Hammonds, Carling, and Crosby

BloodHorse today announced the promotion of Evan Hammonds to editorial director, Scott Carling to general manager, and Claire Crosby to managing editor.

These moves were made following the departure of John Keitt Jr. as chief executive officer of the BloodHorse to take a senior position with the Breeders’ Cup.

“Evan, Scott, and Claire have the skills, leadership qualities, and industry knowledge to ensure the BloodHorse remains successful,” said Carl Hamilton, chairman of BloodHorse. “We have a very talented team at BloodHorse, and we look forward to the continued growth of the BloodHorse’s print and digital products and services.”

Hammonds joined the BloodHorse as managing editor in 1998. As editorial director, Hammonds will establish editorial direction for BloodHorse publications, including the magazine, BloodHorse Daily, and website. Hammonds worked for the BloodHorse as the advertising production manager from 1982 until 1987. He spent the ensuing years working for other publications, including Macmillan Book Clubs and FIGS Form, which was a precursor to Racing Times. From 1989 until 1998 he was a page editor for the Daily Racing Form.

In his role as general manager, Carling will manage sales and marketing, circulation, technology, customer service, and budgeting. He joined BloodHorse in 2016 as director of sales and business development. Carling has been involved with the advertising and marketing of equestrian-related organizations since 1996, when he was classified advertising sales manager for Thoroughbred Times. From 1998 until 2015 he worked for the United States Equestrian Federation, where he started as director of advertising for Equestrian Magazine before becoming the assistant executive director of marketing and then managing director of sales and sponsorship.

Crosby will be responsible for managing editorial assignments, scheduling, and editorial operations. Crosby has been editor of BloodHorse Daily since 2016 and recently became responsible for oversight of Bloodhorse.com and BloodHorse Daily. She was a staff writer for BloodHorse from 2006 until 2008 and then became an Eclipse Award-winning freelance writer. She joined the BloodHorse staff again in 2012.

BloodHorse has chronicled the Thoroughbred industry since 1916 and is dedicated to the improvement of Thoroughbred breeding and racing. BloodHorse produces widely distributed daily and weekly editorial content on Thoroughbred racing and breeding, including via its namesake weekly magazine, BloodHorse Daily, and social media platforms. The Jockey Club Information Systems Inc. purchased a majority interest in BloodHorse in February 2015, with the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association retaining the remaining ownership interest.
