Larry Best’s OXO EQUINE to Receive New Owner of the Year Award at Thoroughbred Owner Conference

OwnerView announced today that Larry Best, who races under OXO EQUINE, has been honored with the 2019 New Owner of the Year Award, presented by Fasig-Tipton, which recognizes a new Thoroughbred owner who has been successful in the sport and has had a positive impact on the industry.

The award will be presented during the sixth Thoroughbred Owner Conference, which is scheduled for Oct. 28_30 at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif.

Best has been a Thoroughbred owner since 2017. During that time, he has campaigned horses such as grade 1 winner Cambier Parc, grade 2 winner Instagrand, and grade 3 winner Instilled Regard. His horses have earned more than $2 million.

“I am honored to have been selected as ‘New Owner of the Year,’” said Best. “Thoroughbred ownership has been a fun and exciting experience for me, and I look forward to many more years of being involved in this great sport.”

The New Owner of the Year Award has been previously presented to the Churchill Downs Racing Club, Charles and Susan Chu, Sol Kumin, and LNJ Foxwoods.

At this year’s Thoroughbred Owner Conference, panels will include discussions pertaining to racing syndicates, aftercare, jockeys’ preparations before races, and pedigrees. The conference will also include a panel on the state of the industry featuring industry experts.

The full conference schedule, as well as more information about the conference, registration, and hotel accommodations, is available at ownerview.com.

OwnerView is a joint effort spearheaded by The Jockey Club and the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association to encourage ownership of Thoroughbreds and provide accurate information on aspects of ownership such as trainers, public racing syndicates, the process of purchasing and owning a Thoroughbred, racehorse retirement, and owner licensing.

The need for a central resource to encourage Thoroughbred ownership was identified in the comprehensive economic study of the sport that was commissioned by The Jockey Club and conducted by McKinsey & Company in 2011. The OwnerView site was launched in May 2012.
