The Board of Stewards of The Jockey Club has approved changes to the fees assessed to name Thoroughbreds and to register owner’s silks at Thoroughbred racetracks in the state of New York. The Jockey Club is designated by the New York State Racing and Wagering Board as the state’s registry for owner’s colors (silks) and stable names.

This marks the first increase to naming fees since 1993 and to silks registration fees since 1985.

The new naming fees take effect on Jan. 1, 2005.

The new silks fees apply to all registrations and renewals for the 2005 racing year, as well as to registrations made in December for the 2004 racing year, in which case the new fee will cover the month of December 2004 and all of 2005.

The specific fee changes are:

• $75 to claim a name if a valid attempt is not made by Feb. 1 of the foal’s two-year-old year (previously $50)

• $75 to reserve a name (previously $50)

• $100 to register silks for the first-time (previously $75)

• $25 to renew silks registration for one year (previously $15)

• $100 to renew silks registration for five years (previously $60)
